What the page is all about
Ok, one of the great joys of triathlon is the gear, the gear we have, the gear we need, the gear we want and the gear we want so badly we actually neeeeed it - no really I do, my life will end unless I get a rear disc.
Anyway, my plan for this page is to:
- list the gear I have
- perhaps provide some reviews of the gear I've got
- run through the gear I want and why
This is also going to be a bit of an experiment in how pages will work and how clever I can get with this blog so sorry if I start punching out some dead links and empty pages, I'm a learn by doing kind of guy.
About me.
First, its probably not really useful to describe my gear and give it any kind of review without giving you some insight into me and what my point of view will be towards a piece of kit.
So basically this is me:
- Age. 48
- Experience: Took up tri in around 2010. Done a bunch of sprints, about four 70.3s and two iron distance races, IM Bussleton in 2013 and Challenge Roth in 2015. Did Melbourne Marathon 2014.
- Height. 192 cm (6"3")
- Weight (fluctuates) 95 to 102 kg - trying to get leaner - aiming at 89 kg
- Swimming ability - ex competitive swimmer and waterpolo player. Can swim, confident, hate it so rely too much on ability and skip too much training.
- Riding ability. Not bad, not great. Usually come about mid pack in age group, when I work hard I get up around top 25%, when I slack off in training drop into bottom half.
- Running ability. Hopeless. Poor technique, too heavy, few miles in the legs. Working hard on this though. Usually rank at or just below mid pack, aiming for top 25%.
Swim
Wetsuit.
- Blue Seventy Helix. circa 2011
Bike
Tri Bike
Frame
Specialized Shiv. Circa 2012. XL. Review Page.
Running Gear
SRAM/FSA Mix. Mostly SRAM Apex but FSA Chainset.
Wheels
Fulcrum Red Wind XLR cult. 80mm front/105mm rear.
